In just five days, I led the creation of a kids tv show set design centered on numbers: a 400 square foot immersive learning environment that feels like a dynamic classroom. Conceived as themed entertainment design for education, the set wraps young viewers in math from every direction.
Through interactive Q&A sessions, the show encourages active participation and fosters a love for math. As an educational tv set design challenge, the space had to make numbers feel exciting on camera: oversized, colorful, and impossible to ignore.

The Brief: A Children’s Television Set Design That Makes Math Unmissable
The brief was joyful and exacting. The production team needed a children’s television set design for a program where every segment teaches numerical concepts. The set had to work like a classroom and play like a playground: giant numbers the cameras can read at a glance, interactive elements for the Q&A format, and a color story bold enough to hold a young audience’s attention.
Five days and 400 square feet. The design had to be compact, buildable, and instantly legible, with every square foot doing educational work.
Design Approach: Immersive Experience Design for Young Learners
I approached the set as immersive experience design: children learn best when the environment itself becomes the lesson. Oversized numerals rise from the walls in pink and white checkerboard, math symbols march across graphic panels, and the floor carries numbered tiles that turn the ground into a learning surface. A yellow calculator-style panel with colorful buttons and a giant number cube give the hosts tactile, camera-friendly props for demonstrating concepts live.
Color is the teaching assistant. Hot pink, sunny yellow, and sky blue keep the energy high, while the white classroom chairs anchor a calm zone for the young participants. The geometric graphics stay bold and simple so they read clearly on camera, even in wide shots.
Camera thinking shaped the layout too. The giant numbers act as instant visual landmarks, so viewers always know where they are in the lesson, no matter which camera is live. Bright, even color across walls and floor means close-ups stay clean and the graphics-heavy backgrounds never turn muddy.
Meticulously crafted to spark curiosity, each segment immerses children in a dynamic learning experience. The colorful set serves as an engaging backdrop for exploring numerical concepts in a fun way.
From Clay Model to Final Render
Before color, the set was resolved as a grayscale 3D clay model to lock the layout, sightlines, and placement of the oversized number sculptures. The comparison below shows the design moving from that massing study to the fully dressed final render, with every graphic, prop, and floor tile in place.

Deliverables
- Complete 3D concept model of the 400 square foot set, designed around a numbers-based television format
- Photorealistic color renders from multiple camera angles
- Full wall and floor graphic designs, including number sculptures, math symbol panels, and numbered floor tiles
- Clay model and final render comparison views for design review
- A cohesive visual system across every learning zone, ready for set construction
From concept to 3D design and graphic design, every aspect aims to make learning enjoyable, with captivating visuals that turn the show into a place kids want to visit.
